UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA BIRMINGHAM

The Faculty, Staff and Students of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s DPT Program appreciates the support and patience of our physical therapy community as we do everything possible to stop the spread of COVID-19. The program is currently teaching all didactic courses remotely for the rest of the spring term, with plans for lab intensive sessions when we are able to return. All clinical activities are suspended until it is deemed safe. The UAB Leadership is in daily communication with multiple stakeholders both internal and external to UAB. BISHOP STATE

As of March 18, 2020, President Sykes closed the Bishop State Campus and required all non-essential employees to work from home. PTA students continue to receive instruction through videoconferencing our learning management system, Canvas, and other means of communication as needed.

I would like to offer assurance to those wishing to complete the current application cycle. The faculty and I are aware of the additional challenges of this year’s applicants. We are working with our advisory committee and administration to determine any changes that will need to be made to allow potential PTA students to complete the process in a fair and unbiased manner. I will ask that the PTA webpage be updated once a decision has been reached.

While faculty and staff do have the ability to check voicemail remotely, I would recommend email as the first point of contact as we have had difficulty reaching those who have phoned the department despite attempting return all of the calls received thus far. Faculty and staff will continue to respond to email during this time, and our contact information is located here.

Together, we shall persevere.
