COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to inform participants in issues involving the interaction of rehabilitation treatment and pharmacology.  This course presents the profile of the typical rehabilitation patient, the most common adverse drug reactions encountered by rehabilitation professionals, and the potential impact these side effects can have on treatment outcomes.  The presentation will focus on drug classes and drug regimens commonly used.  This information should enable the course participants to implement general strategies for coordinating and modifying treatment sessions according to the client’s drug treatment.  It will also provide practical information to assist the therapist in promoting patient compliance with his/her drug regimen and in recognizing potential dangerous side effects and/or decline in drug effectiveness.  This course is intended to meet the needs of the intermediate level clinician.
