Important Changes to BCBS of Alabama Reimbursement Coming Nov 1

Yesterday, BCBS of Alabama announced they will implement the Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction policy effective November 1, 2019. This means that only the first CPT code billed will be paid at 100%, and each subsequent CPT code per visit, per patient will be reduced by 50% of the practice expense. What this translates to is an approximate 6-10% reduction on every 2nd and subsequent code(s) – depending on the CPT codes the clinic builds.

ALAPTA is planning to actively lobby against this change. At this point, we recommend PT providers call their BCBS patient care representative and discuss the implications this change could have on your practice’s viability going forward. Share with them hard, objective data and facts, such as how this change will have huge implications on revenue flow and reducing a patient’s ability to access care if clinics have to close.

ALAPTA will have more information for members in the next couple of weeks about the action we are taking and how you can participate. If you have questions, or information that will help in this effort please contact ALAPTA at info@ptalabama.org.
